DONATION FROM PACIFIC ISLANDER PEOPLE

A big THANK to El Sablan and Lou Sablan who took Baby Jesus to visit different families during the Christmas season.

This is the tradition of Pacific Islander people during Christmas. They take baby Jesus to those who live far away from the church or could not able to go to Church. The donation they contributed to SJOW this year is $801.00. Thank you for your generosity.

SENIOR LUNCH

Our Next Senior Lunch will be Wednesday February 1 in the parish hall at 11:30am. Please join us and enjoy a great lunch.

BLESSING OF THE THROAT

February 3, is the  Memorial  Mass of St. Blaise.  Traditionally blessings of the throats takes place on this day.  In keeping with this tradition the liturgy at SJW will include Blessing of throats. 

 In honor of the tradition for the Feast of the Presentation a table will be set up for those who wish to bring candles from home to be blessed after Mass on Friday February 3rd.  Candles representing those used in our liturgical celebrations will be set out for blessing

PARISH BREAKFAST

February 5, from 8am to 11am

Menu: Island fried rice, Sausage w/ Gravy, Hash Browns Scrambled eggs, Pancakes, Biscuits, Tea, Coffee, Juice, Cider and Hot Chocolate.

We will not be servring after the 11:30am Mass. So plan to join us early for a great breakfast.

LEADERSHIP MEETING & VOLUNTEER NEEDED

St. John of the Woods Mission parishioners are always welcome to attend the quarterly mission leadership group meetings. 

The next meeting is Wednesday, January 25 (TONIGHT) at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Parishioner input is always welcome.

Currently, looking for leadership replacements starting in the Fall (Sept.).

MINISTRY TO THE POOR

Ministries to the Poor thanks you all for your generosity in donating so much food to make the Holiday Season so wonderful for so many.

We have two requests:

1) Please check the dates on all non-perishable items, we ask that you not donate expired food.

2) Please can you make your bags/boxes less heavy. We are not so young anymore and we can’t handle heavy things.

So once again thank you all and consider using 2 bags when bringing food for the poor. 

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Catholic Schools Week will run from Jan. 29th-Feb. 4th.

The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2022 is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.” PSJSTEM will observe the annual celebration week with Masses, an open house and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, we focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation. 

Our parish community is invited to visit our Pope St. John XXIII STEM Academy for Open House on January 29 and for Celebrating our Community on February 2, 2023 

Monday, Jan. 30th, will be Career Day. Please contact Marc Nuno at nunom@psjstem.org or Kelli Bostwick at bostwickk@psjstem.org if you would like to volunteer to share information about your career with the students at PSJXXIII! Be on the lookout for more information on the fun things we have planned!
